THE TREE IS YOUR SPINE

SS26 – P.Andrade

P.Andrade’s SS26 collection dives into a reflection on life in all its forms — from

microorganisms to fungi, animals to spiritual entities — proposing a new way of looking at

the future of our planet.

Inspired by the concept of non-human life and rooted in studies of ecological regeneration,

the collection emerges from the intersection of ancestral Brazilian knowledge and emerging

technologies. In collaboration with artist Samuel de Saboia, the visual and conceptual

narrative unfolds in layers, weaving together biotechnology, spirituality, craftsmanship and

nature.

The title, The Tree is Your Spine, comes from a Kundalini text that symbolically interprets the creation of the world: Adam as atom, Eve as electron, and the tree as the planet’s spine. Here, the tree represents the connection between all cycles of life.

The collection’s aesthetic is deeply inspired by the anime Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, by Studio Ghibli, where a seemingly toxic forest is revealed as a force of healing. Elements from the protagonist — her uniforms, accessories, and stones — inform silhouettes and textures, translating hope amid chaos.

Lace, a traditional symbol of Brazilian culture, is reimagined as a living organism — like proliferating fungi. Artisanal techniques merge with innovative dyeing processes using Brazilian bacteria that replace indigo without producing toxic waste. Binary codes embedded in the garments ensure traceability, reinforcing the blend of tradition and technology.

Phrases from Saboias's paintings like Organic Freedom, Self-Generated Magic, and A Love Letter to a Hurricane echo the poetic force of the collection — an invitation to imagine regenerative futures rooted in the past.
